Coastal Carnage

Dang!

UPDATE: Northglenn Skatpark Meeting Thursday evening @ the Adams County Fairgrounds

via amanda Peterson

Thanks for helping get the word out! I tried to comment to the post, but wasn't able to. Would you be willing to add the following info as a followup to that post? I want to make sure that we have the best chance possible of getting funding for the park, and I want to make sure that everyone has all of the information that they need to be able to provide support for the project.

I just want to clarify a few details regarding this post -

1. The meeting is being held by the Adams County Open Space Advisory Board. Northglenn is a guest at this meeting.

2. Northglenn is applying for grant funding to be able to build a high quality, 15,000 square foot, concrete park

3. Anyone interested is welcome to come to the meeting to speak. There are a few rules, however. The County is giving the grants, so they get to set the rules! Everyone must arrive by 5:30 p.m. Anyone not arriving by that time will not be able to speak. There will be eight different grants presented that night. Northglenn will present the skate park project last.

Immediately following Northglenn's presentation, anyone who would like to speak on behalf of the project may. You will have one minute to voice your support for the project.

4. Please remember, this is a competitive grant process. We want to do everything that we can to show the board that they should give us this grant to build the park. Some things that they may take into consideration are:
- the interest in the project
- the need for the project
- the likelihood that the project will be well maintained and taken care of
- a respect for the Adams County Open Space Board and the grant process

If you want to see a skate park in Northglenn, getting this grant would allow it to be built! If you are willing to show your support for the project and the grant application, your voice could help the board make a decision to fund the skate park!

Please feel free to e-mail me at apeterson@northglenn.org if you would like more info.

Thanks!!

Edwards and Snowmass

Teddy and I checked out the new Edwards bowl on Thursday. It might be difficult to see in this picture, but the waterfall has a hump on one side. This makes for one very large waterfall, and things get real fast and scary in the deep. Click for larger size.

We also skated the new Snowmass park, twice. It's got three main areas: A big bowl with a deep square side, a backyard-type snowman-shaped bowl, and a flow area with a few interesting walls. The coping in the two bowls is Tedder stone, like the stuff in the shallow at Bennett.

This picture of the larger bowl doesn't do it justice. The deep end is very deep with a generous amount of vertical wall. And with the squared corners, it's fast. Click for larger size.

Denver Skate Shop now has Independent Bearing Presses

Denver Skate Shop is now carrying Independent Bearing Presses. Keep your bearings lasting longer with a bearing press. (Think about how long you have to make those RocknRons last)

Mr. Miller Meets Mr. Inouye

A few weeks ago, when I was in Hood River, OR, I had the pleasure of meeting Tom "Wally" Inouye. He's a super nice guy. I went to his shop to get a few T-Shirts, and he didn't have the size I was looking for, so he ran up to his house, got the Tees and came back.

Back at his shop, we chatted for awhile. Later on in the day, when things started to cool off, we met at the skatepark and skated for about an hour and a half. It was totally cool, to skate with a guy that was one of your heroes. I copied his style from Skateboarder magazine back in the day, and I still have that style.

Look for the Denver Skate Shop, carrying IPS boards this fall!!

BTW, Wally and Scott Adams are the only two guys that I know that skate Trackers.

Still in HI

This is what Teddy and I have been skating while in Maui:

-roughly 4' shallow to 5' deep
-sloppy transitions, but has a little vert' everywhere
-dirty messy concrete with chipping paint
-poured-in-place concrete coping
-fun

The park also has some ramps, transitions, a mini ramp, and a vert' ramp. About 20 minutes away in Paia is a pay-to-play park built by RCMC, but why bother when this free ghetto park is five minutes away from where I'm staying, if that.
