Colorado Springs...

JD, Billy and myself skated the Springs today. It was crowded. Sorry Bob V, no pics this time it was too nuckin' futz. Anyway, I'll hit it up again soon, and I'm sure it won't be that crowded. I mean come on, go figure...new park, short day, warm weather, right after xmas, it was just the right combination for a mass of humanity.

However, even though there were hundreds of people there, you could still skate.  I just didn't have the chance to explore the park the way I wanted. I basically stayed in the pool, which I can now say, I can hit the tiles with impunity. I generate speed too.

We skated until our legs were shot. I can't wait to go back.

Newberg, Oregon

I finally got around to editing some more pictures of my skate trip to Oregon.  These are pictures of my favorite park in Oregon. It has so many lines and it is so smooth. The cracks in the concrete are meticulously filled in to make the place like butter years after it was created. So without further rambling here's some pics.

The top spins it's difficult to skate but fun.
Try dropping in off it while it's spinning.

Friday Skate Session

FYI, I have the day off tomorrow if anyone wants to go to Brighton and someplace else. I'm not a fan of Highlands Ranch though JD, if that's where you dropped off your car. It's too JANKY.

Per request - Some Old Skate Pics

Some pics from the early 1980's. The place is Steve's So. Bay in Torrance, CA. It was a great park. Numerous deep bowls, snake runs, and a full pipe. The ditch is a place called V-Land east of Los Angeles near the desert.

This is an interesting presentation about our society and it's future.

When I first saw it, it reminded me of The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy...and it was a little freaky.

Donald

I liked the Donald skate park. Of course, when you're the only one there it's not as fun. I found the similarities between Donald and Bennett somewhat eerie. Proximity to a major city, agricultural community, the railroad tracks that go through the town. I didn't skate here that long but I had fun and skating pools is a super big rush. Another thing that was memorable about Donald is the Donald Tavern had $2 PBR tall boys. It was such a hot day that I had to stop in for one. It was icy cold and I put the can on my forehead to cool off. After the cold one I hopped back in my car and headed to my favorite skatepark in Oregon....Newberg.

News from the National Sporting Goods Association

National Sporting Goods Association

Among sports and recreation activities that grew more than 15% the past 10 years, skateboarding led the way with a 74.1% growth, according to the National Sporting Goods Association (NSGA).

Data contained in NSGA's annual "Sports Participation – Series I and II" reports, which are now available, shows skateboarding grew from 5.8 million to 10.1 million participants between 1998 and 2007. Target shooting had the second highest 10-year growth, 63.3% to 20.9 million participants.

Other sports and recreation activities showing more than 15% growth over the 10-year period included snowboarding (41.7% to 5.1 million participants); running/jogging (40.1% to 30.4 million participants); archery target shooting (37.5% to 6.6 million participants); workout at club (27.5% to 33.8 million participants); motor/power boating (24.1% to 31.9 million participants); muzzleloading (16.1% to 3.6 million participants); and exercise walking (15.6% to 89.8 million participants).

"Skateboarding saw a remarkable increase in the last 10 years, due in part, to the television exposure provided by ESPN's X-Games," said NSGA Vice President of Information & Research Thomas B. Doyle. "Much of that increase came at the expense of inline skating, which saw a decline of 60.4% (to 10.7 million) during the same period. In the 1990s, during inline skating's peak growth period, skateboarding suffered similarly." In 1998, there were 27.0 million inline skaters.

Tigard Skatepark, Tigard OR

Tigard is a park I really like. One of the first things that I noticed was that the coping and composition of the concrete are very similar to good ol' Wheel park. There's one thing though...Tigard Skatepark is like Wheel on steroids AND acid.

The big bowl has this ledge thing where you skaters air from bottom to the top. The big bowl also had this pump bump that worked just perfectly. The little bowl was fun as well and the more open area to the south had huge walls, a brick wall with pool coping, and a spinning disc thing.

This is going to be the first park I hit when I go back, because it's on the way to Newberg and Lincoln City. :)

Sorry no pictures of me skating. At least one of you should come along next time so you can take pictures of me skating. Oh yea, and the dinosaur is skatable.
